Today’s Hottest Singles

Summer is approaching and we all know there’s nothing like having fun songs to accompany us while we’re tanning in the sun, so here’s a list of today’s hottest songs.

Duffy- “Mercy”
Duffy
This 60s inspired song by the Welsh-native is catchy and pays homage to soul singers such as Aretha, James and Etta! The singer accompanied by live instruments challenges the listener to tap their feet and clap their hands in “mercy”. And who else thinks the track sounds like an “Austin Powers” production?

Lil’ Wayne- Lollipop
Lil Wayne
“So I let her lick the wrapper”, Wayne declares seductively on his #1 hit that has been an instant smash amongst Billboard and iTunes! It can be argued if a person loves or hates this song, but one cannot deny how addictive this “candy” can be!

Leona Lewis- Bleeding Love
Leona Lewis
It is strange how this ballad was released over seven months ago in the U.K., but it has recently become a smash in the U.S. topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lewis pours her heart and soul into this song that could rival the divas from the past and the climatic bridge is enough for a listener to wish for love.

Rihanna- Take A Bow
Rihanna
Is this actually an original song or “Irreplaceable PT. II” because the production and lyrics seem reminiscent to the hit song. But it must be something special because the single jumped from #52 to #1 in a week on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to iTunes downloads. Very Impressive!

Michelle Williams- Break the Dawn

Michelle Williams
This “Child of Destiny” is definitely NOT living in the shadow of her successful ex-bandmates, instead she’s doing the “Unexpected” and going against her gospel roots to challenge herself with a techno beat that compliments her raspy tone. There’s no doubt this song will be a hit.

Jazmine Sullivan- I Need You Bad
Jazmine Sullivan
“I need you bad as my heart beat, Bad like the food I eat,” croons Sullivan with her rich and alto voice. The song produced by Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot is incredibly catchy, at times corny but I smell success for this talented singer.

Coldplay- Viva La Vida
Coldplay
Strings and violins enrich this mid-tempo that is clearly Coldplay at their best! It’s been argued that the song is focusing on the “French Revolution”; however, the melody is beautiful and it is expected to be #1 very soon!

Neyo- Closer
Neyo

Neyo neglects his R&B roots and exchange them for techno a la Michelle Williams. The music/beats offer theatrics that fit well with his velvety vocals on this track. “Closer” shows Neyo’s growth as an artist and enhances his versatility.
