Paulie's Pizza Kitchen-

I’d been craving pizza all week. Finally, I decided to get up off my behind and get a slice or two, but instead of going up the street to Papa John’s or around the corner to Pizza Hut, I got in my car and drove to my special lunch spot: Paulie’s Pizza Kitchen on San Diego Mission Road.

I’m not a fan of chunks of tomato and the pizza at PPK has just the right amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings. As the establishment grows, so does the menu, as evidenced by the plate of chocolate chip cookies that greeted me from the counter. Pepperoni pizza and cookies? Heaven!

Picture 2If you want a pizzeria-type of environment where you can hang out with friends, they have that in the main entrance: a bright, open area where you can peek behind the cashier and see the pizza being made with fresh ingrediants.  However, if you seek a sophisticated place to entertain clients, the connecting room has a sleek atmosphere with doors to close for seclusion.

After ordering two slices of pepperoni pizza, I sat down in this newly renovated room adjacent to the main entrance. The classically painted walls showcased local artwork and Bob Marley crooned through speakers in the corner of the room. This room is what made me decide to finally share my hidden gem with you. One could never guess that the establishment was formerly a hair salon that the owner converted to a pizzeria only 10 months ago.

Because the pizza is so good, I’ve never tried another dish. But, they have other meal options that I will have to try one day such as specialty salads, sandwiches, pasta, smoked meat dishes, and BBQ. They offer fountain drinks as well as draft and bottled beer to wash those tasty meals down.

As for pricing, other than a 24 oz. fountain drink for less than $2, prices range from about $3 for a slice of pizza to about $19 for an 18” specialty pizza. They offer catering services as well as free delivery and accept all major credit cards.

The staff is almost as friendly as the owner and the feeling inside is relaxing. If you live in or plan on visiting San Diego, California, make sure to stop by for a slice and some b-b-q.

By the time I jotted this review down in my notepad my second slice of pizza was cold and it still tasted great!
