“What’s up?” he questioned.
And her response was:
“The sky.”
This witty punch line response rings very familiar to those of us who were regular “smart asses” in our youth, but seriously, are people really paying attention to the sky anymore?
My mom used to tell me that I walked around with my head in the clouds. I always took that literally since as a child, I was not only astonished, but seriously baffled by such an infinite design. At a very young age, I learned to point out and name almost all of the major visible constellations.
Our skies were so astonishing, with sunsets eXploding into brilliant hues of oranges, reds and purples that fell flawlessly into the night sky. The stars slowly and methodically aligned… a small delight in the Earth’s rotation. You were at peace and felt connected to something, in some way. The clouds were decorations of the fluffiest cotton balls built to perch upon, and it was not uncommon for most of us to daydream about drifting weightlessly amongst them one day.
Gone are the days of childish ways; now I am an adult (I know, so cliché!). But, upon entering the world everyday, I still look up to eXamine this wondrous phenomenon of nature, and it still keeps me in awe. There is just one problem.
In my obsession with observing the sky over time, I’ve noticed something else… strange.

A haze has settled in over our major cities and the sun barely peeks through this clouded portrait in filtered shades of pinks, blues and grays. I have come to the sad realization that an assault is taking place, right before our eyes. That’s right, an assault on our phenomenal skies!
These pictures make me cringe. Those delicate and fluffy cloudlike creations we all remember seeing are morphing into these unsightly parallel lines and even stranger is how they strike an uncanny parallel to our lives. These “clouds” are forced chaos and they’re confusing to look at, a dead giveaway that they are not at all natural. Could these even be… clouds? Hmmm…
***Please be on the look out for Part 2 of “An Assault on our Skies” where I will uncover some interesting theories about these photos…
